Thanks Jason! You totally motivated me to get working on the newel post and banister! Are you guys hoping to find and use an old one, have one made, or make it yourself? You’ll definitely have to post pictures once it’s done! I’d love to see how it turns out. We will actually have to add on to what we have when we flip the stairs and we’ll probably end up having to try and match the current one. Good luck to you!

Thanks so much for the thoughts Jen. We definitely appreciated getting your post this morning. We are definitely stressed out. At the moment I’ve got my fingers crossed while I wait for the river to crest. Has it been pretty wet there at all? Shane mentioned the other day that some areas of the cities were seeing a little bit of this, but I have to admit I wasn’t really paying attention!

Heard the river was supposed to crest later this week… (My cousin goes to Concordia and has been laying sandbags!). Just thought I’d let you know that I’m thinking of you guys and hoping your basement stays dry!

Your newel post and balusters are great! We have a weird 2′ tall railing around the stairwell upstairs, and for safety, we’re going to replace it with something that meets modern code. We’ve been keeping an eye out for posts and balusters to copy, and yours fits the bill!
